Synod School can best be described as "camp for all ages" (although we don't sleep in tents, we sleep in air-conditioned rooms at Buena Vista University). Last year over 600 adults, children, and youth gathered in Storm Lake, Iowa for worship, classes, and fun. In 2010, from July 25 to July 30, Rodger Nishioka, Christian Education professor, will be the convocation speaker, and there will be classes and activities for all ages. Pastor Suzanne will teach a class on "Technology in Worship."
Mission
Marion Medical Mission puts shallows wells in rural areas of Malawi, Tanzania, and Zambia, Africa. They also work with hospitals, schools, and churches. Pastor Suzanne is on the board, and she's been to Malawi on three, short-term mission trips. First Presbyterian Church gave $350 last year for a well.

Kathy Mahler is a mission co-worker to our Presbytery's sister parish in Berlin, El Salvador. Kathy facilitates partnerships between churches in the United States and churches in the parish in El Salvador and she hosts delegations of people who visit El Salvador. You can learn about fair trade Don Justo Coffee, and even purchase some through their website.

The Presbytery of Des Moines is a group of 62 churches in south central Iowa, ranging in size from 20 members to 1,400 members. The Presbytery of Des Moines blog.
The Synod of Lakes and Prairies includes 16 presbyteries (including the Presbytery of Des Moines) in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, and North and South Dakota. It includes 900 churches with about 150,000 members.
